How to grip and release a vulcan change | Henken [Baseball Pitching Lab Japan]

Vulcan change

Vulcanchange movement

The Vulcan change is considered a type of changeup, but its grip and movement share similarities with a sinker.
Like other changeups, it is thrown with the same arm speed and release as a fastball, disrupting the hitter’s timing.
The pitch features arm-side fade while dropping as it approaches the plate.

Unlike a sinker, however, it does not have a pronounced looping trajectory.
Instead, it travels on a path closer to a fastball before breaking.

Grip and Release

Split the ball between the middle and ring fingers.
Support the bottom of the ball with your thumb and little finger.
The index finger should not touch the ball; instead, it rests lightly against the thumb.

Release the ball the same way as a fastball.
As with all changeups, effectiveness depends on maintaining identical arm speed and motion compared to your fastball.
The more closely your arm action matches your fastball, the more effective the pitch will be.
